Ankara Vibes: Drumming Through Turkey's Capital with a Tired Heart

woke up in ankara with my drumsticks still tangled in the sheets and my ears ringing from last night's gig at this tiny underground club called *Mavi Rock Bar. the city feels like it's running on a different rhythm-halfway between political hustle and student chill. the numbers 315155 and 1792007259? probably just my booking agent's weird way of labeling gigs, but they kept flashing in my head like a bad setlist while i was trying to find coffee this morning.

anyway, the weather's doing that moody thing-temp's hanging around
6°C, feels like 4.87°C with humidity at 89%. my drummer hands are already cold and i haven't even hit the snare yet. if you're planning to visit, layer up and maybe bring a thermos. i just checked and it's... brisk out there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

gear check for fellow drummers:
- extra sticks (one snapped last night on a rimshot)
- in-ear monitors (the venue's monitor guy was half asleep)
- portable hand warmers (trust me)

someone told me that
Kızılay neighborhood is where all the cool session players hang after shows. i heard that Nokta Ankara has late-night jam sessions if you're brave enough to sit in. also, Gordion Restaurant does a mean lentil soup that apparently cures hangovers-i'll let you know if it works.

if you get bored,
Eskişehir and Konya are just a short drive away. locals say the drive's boring but the baklava stops make it worth it.

"Ankara's not Istanbul," a taxi driver muttered to me. "We work, we drink, we sleep. No time for tourist selfies."

random overheard rumor: the best drum shop in town is hidden behind a bookstore on Cumhuriyet Street. i haven't found it yet, but i'm hunting.

here's where i am, more or less:

Ankara street scene

Turkish coffee cup

Ankara architecture

my hands are still shaking from the cold and the adrenaline. ankara's got a heartbeat, but it's buried under paperwork and kebabs. i'll keep drumming until i find it.
