baltimore chaos and crab cakes
woke up on a humid saturday and decided to wander around baltimore, mostly because my brain needed a break from the endless spreadsheet of travel plans. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the air smells like salty sea mixed with old coffee from the corner diner, and the sky is that weird mix of gray and blue that only mid‑atlantic weather can pull off. the map below kind of shows where i am stuck in this concrete jungle, but honestly i’m more interested in the food and the weird street art.
*i snapped a couple of photos from the street, one of the skyline across the water during daylight and another at night when the lights flicker on like fireflies.
the view from the inner harbor is kinda magical, especially when the ships are moored and the gulls are arguing over crumbs. someone told me that the best crab cake you can get is at this tiny place near the pier, but honestly i’m just here to soak up the chaos. if you get bored, [cities] are just a short drive away. the weather here swings between hot humid days that feel like you’re sitting in a sauna and chilly nights where you need a jacket just to stand on the porch. the city’s got a reputation for being gritty, and i love that about it. the streets are full of people hustling, vendors shouting about fried fish, and the occasional busker playing a sax that makes you forget you’re in a city at all.
the vibe is kind of laid back but also super competitive when it comes to who can eat the most crab at one sitting. the city’s got a high comfort index according to some report, but i’m not sure if that’s because of the mild winters or because the trees are doing a great job pulling ozone out of the air, which i read somewhere removes like eight million kilograms of ozone each year. that’s kinda wild, right?
anyway, if you’re planning a trip, pack light, bring a raincoat, and maybe a hat for the sun because the humidity can turn into a sticky mess in the afternoon. the local cuisine is all about crab, old bay seasoning, and this weird barbecue called pit beef that you’ll find in a few hole‑in‑the‑wall spots. the food is cheap, tasty, and kinda addictive, which is why i keep coming back for more.
so yeah, that’s my messy, slightly tired, chaotic blog post about baltimore. feel free to scroll through the pictures, stare at the map, and imagine yourself here, trying to dodge the occasional pothole and the endless stream of honking taxis. hope you enjoyed the rambling.
