Bogota Blues & Basslines (and a whole lotta humidity)
okay, wow. bogota. where do i even start? it’s been…a lot. the numbers they gave me - 3685533 and 1170743755 - honestly, i have no clue what they mean. probably some internal tour logistics thing. i’m just trying to keep the amps from blowing and the basslines tight, you know?
we landed late, like, really late. the whole crew was dragging. the venue’s in La Candelaria, which is…charming, in a crumbling-colonial-buildings kind of way. it’s got character, definitely. but the humidity? seriously. i just checked and it’s hovering around 24 degrees, feels like 24.82, and the humidity is a ridiculous 88%. my hair is a disaster. my guitar strings are a disaster. everything is a disaster.
finding a decent coffee shop that stays open late enough for us roadies is proving…challenging. i’m running on fumes and instant coffee at this point. someone told me that there’s a place called “Azahar” around the corner that supposedly has amazing Colombian coffee, but it closes at 9 pm. we usually don’t finish soundcheck until 10. typical.
we played last night. the crowd was…enthusiastic. a little too enthusiastic, maybe. a few people kept trying to climb on stage during the encore. security wasn’t exactly thrilled. the sound system was…adequate. let’s just say my bass rig took a beating. i’m hoping the tech crew can work some magic before tonight’s show.
I heard that the food scene here is incredible, but honestly, i haven’t had time to explore. we’re mostly grabbing whatever’s quick and easy near the venue. arepas are a lifesaver, though. seriously. i could live on arepas.
if you get bored, Medellín and Cali are just a few hours away by bus. i’m tempted to sneak off for a day trip, but the tour manager would have my hide. plus, i need to make sure my bass is actually playable by tomorrow.
getting around is…an experience. the traffic is insane. and the hills! my legs are burning just walking to the corner store. i’m seriously considering hiring a bike with an electric motor.
check out TripAdvisor for some restaurant recommendations - apparently, there’s a place called “La Puerta Falsa” that’s a must-try. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g297478-d713483-Reviews-La_Puerta_Falsa-Bogota_Cundinamarca_Department.html. i might brave the crowds for some authentic Colombian food.
and if you’re into street art, apparently Bogota has a thriving scene. https://www.bogotatourism.gov.co/en/bogota-street-art/. i’ll try to snap some photos between soundchecks.
right, gotta go. gotta find some caffeine and pray my bass doesn’t completely fall apart. wish me luck.
