Bronxville Blues & Broken Beats
okay, so, like, i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. 3665542 and 1170798590 - don’t ask. it’s a thing. a weird, persistent hum in my brain. i landed in Bronxville yesterday, and honestly? it’s… gray. really gray. the sky’s this bruised plum color, and the buildings are all a sort of faded brick. it’s not bad, just… muted. the humidity is clinging to everything, like a damp wool blanket. 73% - feels like 15.91 degrees, temp_min 16.32, temp_max 16.32, pressure 1012. it’s a solid 1012 sea level, which is… comforting, i guess? i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
I was supposed to be photographing the *Bronxville Manor, you know, the one with the insane architecture. But the light was completely off. like, aggressively off. So, i ended up wandering around the Greenburgh Nature Center, which was… fine. Lots of trees. Lots of squirrels judging me. I swear they were judging my backpack.
I overheard some serious gossip at the diner - ‘The Corner Spot’ - about a local artist who’s apparently been painting murals all over town. Someone told me that he only works at night, using glow-in-the-dark paint. Wild, right? I also heard that the town council is trying to ban street performers. Apparently, they’re “disrupting the aesthetic.” Like, seriously? It’s Bronxville. It’s already aesthetically… something.
Speaking of the aesthetic, I’m trying to find a decent vintage shop. I need something to distract me from the pervasive grayness. I’m looking for a leather jacket, ideally something with a bit of a history. I checked out a few places on Yelp - ‘Threads & Treasures’ - but the selection was… underwhelming. I’m hoping to find something a little more… interesting. Maybe a silk scarf? Or a pair of combat boots? Seriously, Bronxville needs some color.
I’m staying at this Airbnb - it’s… functional. The host, Mrs. Henderson, keeps leaving me these little ceramic gnomes on my doorstep. It’s… unsettling. If you get bored, White Plains are just a short drive away. They’ve got a pretty decent brewery, apparently. I’m not a huge beer person, but desperate times, you know?
I stumbled across this little park - Pelham Park. It’s got a really cool fountain, and a bunch of benches. I sat there for a while, just watching people. Mostly dog walkers. And a guy playing the harmonica. It was… oddly peaceful. I’m trying to capture the vibe of this place in a photo series, but it’s proving difficult. Everything feels a little… staged. Like a movie set. I need to find a way to inject some genuine chaos into it.
I’m thinking of checking out the Bronxville Historical Society* tomorrow. Maybe I’ll learn something about the town’s past. Or at least find a decent cup of coffee. I need caffeine. Badly.
Seriously, the gray. It’s a lot. I’m starting to feel like a permanent resident of a black and white film. I’m going to go find a pizza. And maybe a slightly less judgmental gnome.
