Buenos Aires Blues & Broken Beats

Okay, deep breath. Buenos Aires. What a whirlwind. 1710149138 - doesn't even begin to cover the hours spent wandering, getting delightfully lost, and fueled by copious amounts of cheap coffee. The weather? I just checked and it's…warm. Really warm. 31.23 Celsius, feels like 35.6. Humidity is sitting at 61%, so basically a sauna, but a pretty cool sauna with a lot of history. The pressure’s 1014, so no impending storms, thankfully.
I'm trying to piece together the last week like a broken record. Started off pretty rough, honestly. Flight was delayed, lost my backpack for a solid two hours (found it eventually, wedged under a bench - seriously, how?), and then realized my Spanish is way worse than I remembered. Managed to order a choripán though, so small victories.
But then…the music. Oh god, the music. I spent ages just wandering around San Telmo, letting the sounds pull me in. Found this little place, La Ventana, tucked away on a side street. A tiny jazz club, barely bigger than my living room back home, but the atmosphere was incredible. The band was amazing - a couple of local guys just improvising, really letting loose. It was one of those moments where everything else just melted away. I heard that this place is a favorite of a few tango dancers, too - apparently, it's the perfect spot to practice those steps.
Speaking of dancing… I’m a freelance photographer, and I’m trying to capture the soul of this city. I spent a morning in Plaza Dorrego, just photographing the tango dancers. The energy there is insane. It’s chaotic, passionate, and just…real. I'm aiming for a project focusing on the everyday life of Porteños, but honestly, the tango scene keeps pulling me back in. Someone told me that the best shots happen when you least expect them, when you're not even looking for a photo - it’s true.
Spent yesterday exploring Palermo Soho - all the cool boutiques, cafes, and street art. I’m perpetually searching for the perfect light, and Palermo Soho is a photographer's dream. There's a raw, edgy energy to it that I love. I'm also trying to find some decent coffee - it's proving to be a challenge. I'm so used to my usual spot back home! If you get bored, Montevideo is just a short drive away.
The humidity really gets to you by late afternoon. I’m thinking of heading to El Ateneo Grand Splendid - that bookstore inside a converted theatre. Apparently, it’s gorgeous. You can check out the reviews on TripAdvisor to see what people are saying. It’s a good place to recharge and maybe find a little inspiration.
Honestly, I’m feeling a bit drained, but also completely invigorated. Buenos Aires is a city that gets under your skin. It’s messy, it’s beautiful, and it’s full of stories. Anyway, gotta find some empanadas - my stomach is growling. I’ll probably be back in my usual routine soon, but I’m already dreaming of coming back. Maybe next time with less lost luggage.
