Buenos Aires Brain Dump: 3407327 & 1076615737 – Does Anyone Else Feel This?
okay, so buenos aires. wow. where do i even start? i'm a freelance photographer, so my brain is constantly processing visuals, and this city…it’s a full-on assault on the senses, in the best way possible. i just checked and it's… a humid haze, clinging to everything. there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the air smells like grilling meat, exhaust fumes, and something vaguely floral - maybe jasmine? it’s a lot.
i stumbled upon these random numbers - 3407327 and 1076615737 - scribbled on a napkin at a tiny corner cafe in *Palermo. no idea what they mean, but they’re stuck in my head. maybe it’s a code? a palindrome? some kind of cosmic joke? honestly, it feels very Buenos Aires.
The weather report said 31.18°C, feels like 31.46°C, humidity at 42%. pretty standard, i guess, but the way it hits you here…it’s different. It’s thick and heavy, like a warm blanket you can’t quite shake off.
And the neighbors? a mix. definitely a lot of older folks chatting on stoops, kids kicking a soccer ball in the plaza, and a surprising number of street performers - mostly tango musicians, of course. i heard a rumor, something a local warned me about, that some of the more charming-looking antique shops in San Telmo are actually fronting for…well, let’s just say questionable dealings. don't ask. seriously. check out TripAdvisor’s San Telmo page before you start haggling.
i spent yesterday wandering around La Boca. it’s… intense. ridiculously colorful, teeming with tourists, and a little bit chaotic. i heard that some of the tango shows there are super tourist-trap-y, but i did manage to find a small, less-known venue that had an amazing show. you can find some ideas for finding authentic tango experiences on Yelp.
someone told me that the best empanadas aren’t in the touristy areas. get lost. seriously get lost. you’ll find them. i heard that the street food scene in Recoleta is incredible, but also that the prices are astronomical.
i’m trying to embrace the chaos, let the city pull me along. it’s exhausting but also… exhilarating. i've been sketching in my notebook - mostly buildings, street scenes, the faces of people. i’m thinking of starting a little online shop for my prints - you can see some of my work on my portfolio.
there's a weird energy here. a melancholic beauty. like the city is constantly mourning something, but still finding a way to celebrate life. it probably has something to do with the tango, right? i'm trying to get a feel for the local art scene, check out some galleries. maybe i'll even try to sketch a street artist…
i am going to try and see the Recoleta Cemetery* today. Seems pretty spooky, judging by the travel blogs.
anyway...back to figuring out what those numbers mean. maybe they’re coordinates? or just random thoughts. who knows? that’s the beauty of buenos aires, isn't it? the mystery. the… well, the slightly confusing numbers.
