Chaotic Lucknow: A City Full of Surprises

hey everyone, so i just got back from lucknow. ok, full disclosure, i'm a bit tired and my notes are all over the place, but let me try to give you the gist.

lucknow, as it turns out, is the capital of uttar pradesh. it's this massive city that sits on the gomti river, right in the central-northern part of the state. i just checked and it's 11.05°C there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

the city is huge, covering 631 km², which is like, way bigger than i expected. and get this, it's in a seismic zone, so i guess that means earthquakes aren't uncommon.

historically, lucknow has been a big deal since 1528 when bābur, the first mughal ruler, captured it. it became this super important place during the 18th and 19th centuries under the nawabs. i mean, it was the seat of power, can you imagine? and then, get this, it became the capital of uttar pradesh in 1920.

geographically, it's surrounded by these rural towns and villages, and it's split into trans-gomti and cis-gomti regions by the river. it's like this mix of old and new, you know?

if you get bored, kanpur is just 80 km away, and there's also ayodhya, sitapur, barabanki, and unnao nearby. it's not like you'll run out of places to explore.

someone told me that lucknow is known as the "city of nawabs". i guess that's because of its historical significance. it's got this blend of mughal and awadh heritage, which is pretty cool.

the city is also a big deal for tourism. it's part of this uttar pradesh heritage arc with agra and varanasi. and oh, the markets! aminabad and hazratganj are supposed to be awesome for shopping.

culturally, lucknow is a big mix. hindi and urdu are widely spoken, and it's known as the center of shia islam in india. i mean, it's like, the city of culture or something.

now, let's talk about food. i'm sorry, but i didn't manage to try any local dishes this time. maybe next visit, right?

ok, so i'm going to embed a map so you can see where i'm talking about:

oh, and here are some pics i found that give you an idea:

a very large building with a massive entrance

brown and white concrete building under blue sky during daytime

gray concrete mosque

anyway, that's my chaotic ramble about lucknow. hope it gives you some ideas if you're thinking of visiting. until next time!
