Clarksville Chronicles: Drum Beats, Humidity, and a Dash of Chaos
it's 4:00 am and i'm wide awake, probably because the humidity here in clarksville is doing a number on my sleep cycle. i just checked and it's 16.81°c outside right now, feels like 16.53°c, with a humidity of 76%. hope you like that kind of thing. i'm here as a touring session drummer, and let me tell you, this place has a rhythm all its own.
"You haven't really been to Clarksville until you've played at The Wheatsheaf,"
someone told me at the bar last night. apparently, it's the spot where all the local musicians gather. i'll have to check it out, but first, let me tell you about my first impressions.
walking around downtown, i noticed the streets are lined with *vintage shops and quirky cafes. i overheard a couple of locals talking about the best coffee in town, and they mentioned Rooster Brew Co.. i might just have to swing by there later. if you get bored, Nashville and Memphis are just a short drive away, so there's no shortage of places to explore.
i met a freelance photographer who was snapping pics of the old train station. he said it's one of the most photographed spots in town, and i can see why. the architecture is stunning, and the light hits it just right in the late afternoon. he also mentioned that the best time to catch the sunrise is from the Liberty Park, which i'm definitely adding to my list.
"Don't miss the ghost tour at the old hospital,"
a drunk guy at the bar warned me. "it's supposed to be haunted, but i think it's just the acoustics playing tricks on you." i'm not sure if i believe in ghosts, but as a drummer, i'm always up for a good story about sound.
if you're planning a trip here, i'd recommend checking out the local events calendar on ClarksvilleNow or VisitClarksvilleTN. there's always something happening, from live music to art walks. and if you're into history, the Customs House Museum* is a must-see.
as a drummer, i'm always on the lookout for unique sounds, and clarksville has been a pleasant surprise. the rhythm of the city, the chatter of the locals, and even the occasional train whistle all add to the symphony of this place. i'm looking forward to seeing what other beats this city has in store for me.
