delhi: it's a mess, but in a good way
so, delhi. it's a big, chaotic place, let me tell you.
i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. around 14 degrees and feeling like 13.7, so pack a jacket? the pressure's 1022, humidity 82-real muggy if you ask me.
it's in north-central india, straddling the yamuna river, mostly on the west bank. about 160 km south of the himalayas, between the aravallis and the himalayas. elevation's 200-300 meters, and it's in seismic zone-IV-earthquake territory, but don't worry about it.
if you get bored, haryana and uttar pradesh are just a short drive away. ghaziabad's across the hindon river, and delhi's the heart of this massive national capital region.
someone told me that delhi's been around for 2,000 years, started as indraprastha in the mahabharata. then seven ancient cities like qila rai pithora and shahjahanabad. got conquered by afghans in 1193, became a mughal hub, then the british took over in 1803. they shifted india's capital from calcutta in 1911, and new delhi was inaugurated in 1931. post-1947, it became the capital, then a union territory in 1956, and nct in 1992. wild history, right?
geography's got the delhi ridge (up to 318m) circling west and north, alluvial plains, and the yamuna splitting it into bigger western and smaller eastern parts. rural areas cover 783 km², urban 700 km².
food? everyone says old delhi bazaars like chandni chowk are the bomb for street eats. but i haven't tried it yet-maybe next time.
traffic is no joke, though. someone told me it's the highest in india, with insane flyovers and three major bus stations: kashmere gate, sarai kale khan, anand vihar. air quality's not great, but you get used to it?
here are some snaps i took:
so yeah, delhi. it's a lot. old and new, noisy and crowded, but kinda magical in its own messy way. i'm not complaining. much.
