Demographics of Chihuahua: Who Lives Here in 2026?

so you're thinking about moving to chihuahua, huh? good luck. it's not exactly the first city that pops into your head when you think "mexico," but it's got its own weird charm. and by weird, i mean "you'll probably get lost in a neighborhood that looks like it was designed by a drunk architect." but hey, that's part of the fun, right?

let's talk numbers. according to the latest data (which, let's be real, is probably outdated by the time you read this), chihuahua has around 900,000 people. that's a lot of humans crammed into one place. and they're not all the same. you've got your tech bros in the north, your artists in the centro, and your farmers in the south. it's like a human salad, but instead of lettuce and tomatoes, it's people with different jobs and hobbies.

rent? oh, you want to talk about rent? a one-bedroom apartment in the city center will run you about $300 a month. sounds cheap, right? until you realize that the apartment probably has a bathroom the size of a closet and a kitchen that's basically a hot plate and a sink. but hey, you're not here for luxury. you're here for the experience.

and speaking of experiences, let's talk about the weather. it's hot. like, "why did i move here?" hot. summers are brutal, and winters are just cold enough to make you regret not bringing a jacket. but the people here? they're used to it. they'll tell you it's "not that bad," but they're lying. it's bad.

now, let's get to the good stuff. the people. chihuahua is a melting pot of cultures, and i'm not just saying that because it sounds good. you've got your indigenous communities, your mexican cowboys (yes, they exist), and your expats who thought they could handle the heat but are now sweating through their linen shirts. it's a beautiful mess, really.

but let's not forget the safety. chihuahua has a reputation for being a bit rough around the edges. and by "a bit," i mean "you might want to avoid certain areas after dark." but don't let that scare you off. just use common sense, and you'll be fine. and if you're really worried, just stick to the touristy areas. they're touristy for a reason.

oh, and before i forget, here's a map so you don't get lost. because trust me, you will get lost.

and because i'm feeling generous, here are some photos to give you an idea of what you're getting into. enjoy the chaos.

now, if you're still here after all that, you're either brave or crazy. or both. but hey, that's what makes life interesting, right? so go ahead, pack your bags, and head to chihuahua. just don't say i didn't warn you.
