Fethiye Feels Like a Dream I Can't Wake Up From
the moment i landed in fethiye, the air smelled like salt and pine trees and something sweet i couldn't place. i'm here for a week, but already i'm wondering if i should just quit my job and stay. the numbers 317109 and 1792161179? no idea what they mean, but they're stuck in my head like a bad pop song. maybe they're coordinates to a secret beach. maybe they're just random. either way, they feel like part of the trip now.
anyway, the weather's doing its thing-temp's hovering around 9.42°c, feels like 8.62°c, humidity at 71%. i just checked and it's chilly but not freezing, so layer up if you're coming. the pressure's 1007, which apparently means clear skies. i'm not a meteorologist, but i'll take it.
i heard from a guy at the hostel that the real magic happens at oludeniz beach. he said it's "like swimming in a postcard," which sounds like drunk advice, but i'm gonna check it out anyway. someone else told me the dolmuş (those shared minibuses) are the best way to get around-cheap, chaotic, and full of locals who'll correct your turkish pronunciation with a smile.
"don't trust the first boat tour you see," a woman whispered to me at a cafe. "the ones near the harbor overcharge tourists."
so i'm planning to wander the backstreets instead, maybe find a family-run place that doesn't have a sign in english. i've already bookmarked a few spots on tripadvisor, like the fethiye fish market and the ancient lycian rock tombs. but honestly, half the fun is getting lost.
if you get bored, antalya and marmaris are just a short drive away. i might hop over there if fethiye starts feeling too small. or maybe i'll just stay here and eat baklava until i can't move.
here's a map so you can see where i'm talking about:
and because no travel post is complete without photos, here are a few i found on unsplash:
i'm not sure what those numbers mean, but they've got me thinking about fate and randomness and how sometimes the best trips are the ones you don't plan. fethiye feels like one of those. messy, unpredictable, and exactly what i needed.
