Freiburg Lens Blur: A Shutterbug's Damp Adventure
there’s something about freiburg that makes my camera shutter go wild between raindrops. just checked and it’s that damp-in-your-bones chill where your lenses fog up faster than you can say ‘autofocus fail’. hope you packed lens wipes.
spent yesterday trying to capture *münster cathedral through the mist. spoiler alert: my fingers froze before i got the perfect shot. heard from this graffiti artist at the market that the gothic spires look best when half-swallowed by fog. something about ‘emotional weight’ or whatever.
someone told me that the best light for the Münster is at 4:17 pm, exactly. Don’t be late, or you’ll get the wrath of the photography gods.
biked down bächle* (those cute little water channels) this morning. my sneakers are still soggy. when the creative well runs dry, colmar and strasbourg are only a hop, skip, and a jump away. though honestly? freiburg’s own Augustinermuseum has more stolen artifacts than inspiration for your next shoot.
overheard this at a bar: ‘if you want to capture the soul of the city, go to the fish market at 6 am. but bring an umbrella, because the pigeons are territorial.’
tried shooting Schlossberg Tower yesterday. humidity was so high my camera developed its own rainforest ecosystem. pro-tip: never trust a local who says ‘it’s not raining, just atmospheric pressure being dramatic’. they’re all liars. also, this Black Forest bakery near Schwabentor has pastries so good you’ll forget your lens cap at home.
