Glasgow in the Fog: A Drummer's Messy Night Out

so i landed in glasgow with just my sticks and a duffel bag, ready to play at the old fruitmarket. the city was wrapped in this weird damp chill-i just checked and it's 7°c and 94% humidity there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. i'm a touring session drummer, so i notice these things: the way cold air makes your snare sound tighter, the way drizzle makes your cymbals sparkle under streetlights.

first stop: flat 0/1 on sauchiehall street. someone told me that their espresso martini is the only thing that'll keep you upright after a 2am load-out. it's true. i sat next to a guy who claimed he once saw ziggy stardust play there before it was a bar. probably drunk advice, but glasgow's full of that kind of rumor.

walking back to my airbnb in the merchant city, i passed the glasgow cathedral. the stonework looked like it had been carved by giants with hangovers. i heard that the necropolis behind it is haunted by victorian poets-ghost hunter bait, if you ask me.

if you get bored, edinburgh and stirling are just a short drive away. but honestly, glasgow's got enough grit and charm to keep you busy. the people are sharp, the music scene is alive, and the rain? well, it's just part of the rhythm.

here's where i was staying:

people walking between concrete buildings at daytime

brown concrete building under blue sky during daytime

body of water between high-rise building
