i thought mirzapur was going to be chill but it was a total mess

@Hudson Lake2/5/2026blog

i just found myself in mirzapur and honestly i wasn’t sure why i came here. maybe the gps told me wrong or my friend kept saying something about the clock tower being magical for ist. whatever. i didn’t ask questions.

so i just checked and it’s 25.94 celsius right now, hope you like that kind of thing. it’s one of those days where the sun is out but it’s too hot to care. or maybe it’s the right temperature to walk around and be miserable. idk. the city doesn’t really care. it’s all hills and rocks and you’re expected to know where you’re going if you ‘don’t want to cry’. which i did. multiple times.

the clock tower here is like a mini big ben because it’s on that ist longitude. maybe that’s true? i don’t know, i didn’t check with a watch or anything. but the guy at the shop said it’s only 4 minutes off. that’s awesome or whatever. idk, i’m just here to blog and sweat.

if you get bored, varanasi or lucknow are just a short drive away. i tried to go to varanasi once using a scooter and ended up in a puddle. don’t ask why. it’s probably a story for another time.

someone told me that the carpet shop here sells fake ones but i couldn’t confirm. i’m not about to go back and check again. i mean, whatever. it’s not like i have proof. but if you’re there, just be careful. don’t let them trick you.

i went to one of those temples this morning. not sure which one. it’s called kundali khoh or something. whatever. it was small but the vibe was off. maybe because i was there in the middle of summer? who knows. the guy selling incense kept whispering in hindi and i pretended i understood because stared didn’t want to seem ignorant.

the carpet industry is everything here. i saw this huge shop with all kinds of rugs. i asked about prices and they started talking about ’handmade’ like it’s some big deal. spoiler: it’s not. or at least i didn’t buy anything. but i took a bunch of photos just in case. nobody cares anyway.

the terrain is like hills and rocks. i tried walking without a guided tour and ended up lost. don’t do that unless you like getting your phone shattered against a hill. not worth it. there’s also this thing with the river and the waterfalls. some places are random natural beauty and others are just mud. it’s hard to tell.

overall, mirzapur is what you’d expect. messy, hot, and full of stuff that doesn’t make sense. but hey, if you like chaos and don’t care about air conditioning, it’s your spot. i’m leaving. maybe. probably not. idk.
