Job Market Analysis: Most In-Demand Careers in Bello (and Why It's Not What You Think)
so here's the thing about bello-it's not just another colombian city you skip on your way to medellín. it's got its own weird, messy energy that somehow makes sense once you're here. i spent two weeks talking to locals, dodging scooters, and accidentally walking into three different warehouses that turned out to be tech startups. turns out, the job market here is shifting faster than the weather (which, by the way, is basically "will it rain in the next 15 minutes?" roulette).
*the big three industries right now: logistics & warehousing (thanks, e-commerce boom), tech/customer service (call centers and remote work hubs), and healthcare (nurses, caregivers, the works). rent? you can get a decent one-bedroom for around 800k-1.2m cop/month, which is like $200-300 usd. safety-wise, it's… complicated. some neighborhoods are chill, others not so much. ask a local before you wander after dark.
overheard at a bakery: "everyone's either working at the new dis warehouse or trying to code from their grandma's living room." sounds about right.
quick pros & cons*:
- pro: cost of living is stupid low compared to medellín
- pro: people are ridiculously friendly
- con: public transit is a hot mess
- con: the job market is still catching up to the hype
if you're thinking of moving here for work, check out indeed colombia or the medellín expa subreddit for real leads. and maybe learn some spanish-english-only jobs are rare outside of call centers.
anyway, here's a map so you don't get as lost as i did:
and because every blog post needs pretty pictures, here's bello looking all dramatic:
