Lost in the Labyrinth: My Buenos Aires Whirlwind

okay, so, buenos aires. where do i even begin? the numbers… 3511540 and 1214335207 just popped into my head for no reason. maybe they're zip codes? who knows. the weather here is… intense. i just checked and it's baking, there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. temp is 29.7, feels like 33.25. humidity is thick, like you’re breathing soup. it’s that kind of heat that just clings to you.

i’m a total mess, honestly. just landed, grabbed a ridiculously overpriced empanada, and now i’m wandering around trying to decipher the street signs. the language is a beautiful blur of sounds i mostly understand, but i’m definitely butchering my attempts at speaking spanish.

the locals? they’re… animated. full of energy. like a constant hum of conversation and laughter. if you get bored, Argentina has so much to offer. like, seriously. you could spend a lifetime here. i overheard someone at a cafe saying that the tango scene in San Telmo is the place to be, but also that the street performers are all trying to hustle tourists. classic, right?

my plan? absolutely no plan. just soaking it all in. i’m staying in a little hostel near Plaza de Mayo - super basic, but clean. the kind of place where you can hear the faint sound of music drifting from the street all night. `

Someone told me that you have to be careful with your belongings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your wits about you.

` - a local warned me that pickpockets are a thing, so, yeah, playing it safe.

i spent yesterday getting delightfully lost in the colorful streets of La Boca. all the corrugated iron buildings painted in every shade imaginable. it’s totally touristy, sure, but it’s also undeniably charming. i even tried to take a photo of a street artist at work, but i completely messed up the focus.

food-wise? it’s a carb-lover’s paradise. i've already consumed an alarming amount of pasta and alfajores. i heard that El Ateneo Grand Splendid, a bookstore in a converted theater, is a must-see. someone told me the coffee is amazing there, but be prepared for a queue.

i’m trying to embrace the chaos, you know? just roll with it. i’m definitely going to explore some of the museums - the MALBA looks pretty cool. and maybe take a tango lesson? i'm picturing myself tripping all over the place, but hey, it’ll be an experience. the pressure is 1018, humidity is 65%, and it might rain later… who knows?

i need to go find some mate. and maybe another empanada.
