mykonos through the lens of a broke tourist who can’t stop hating flip-flops but keeping pretending they’re cozy

it's 6.16 degrees here right now which is warmer than my hopes for warm sands but colder than my bank account. the wind feels like it’s trying to steal my coat and my will to live. heard from a local barista that the legendary *Kitron liqueur spot has a hidden window near the port where old fishermen still smoke cigarettes under their boat canopies-she said if you order a double shot and mention the soccer game from yesterday, they’ll nod knowingly like you’re clan. i just checked my phone and the humidity is 94% which makes the whole island feel like a soggy thrift store rag. walked past the copper-domed church earlier and swore the pigeons looked mad at me like i ruined their vacation. someone told me that the beach rentals next to the Mykonos Old Port are all broken because of ‘the salt’ but i’m too poor to check-my wallet gasps every time i pass another café offering ‘Greek espresso’ for €10, which is the same price as a month’s rent on the mainland. saw a guy arguing with a seagull near the grotta ruins and the wind tossed his hair so hard he looked either enlightened or one hiccup away from a breakdown. i mean, is this not the dream? 304827 steps later i’m still not sure if i’m wandering or being hunted by a phantom donkey. the weather app said the high today would be 10.5°C but the real farmers market vendors are like no no no, it’s woefully unreliable. if you get bored, santorini is just a short drive away but by boat not car so add that 2-hour ferry ride plus another 2 hours of people yelling in seven languages. overheard two German tourists whispering that the toilet paper at Ammos Beach ‘disintegrated in their hands’ but honestly, i’m just glad i didn’t have to test that theory. yelp says the Mantos Beach Restaurant* has the best sunset views but i’m betting they’re exaggerating because their food photos look suspiciously like stock clipart. dreamy? no. gritty? yes. myonafied? absolutely.
