pretoria is a place i guess
so pretoria. it's in south africa. i just checked and it's 19.76°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
i heard pretoria is like this old city that was founded in 1855 by some guy named marthinus pretorius who named it after his dad. i guess that's sweet but also kinda weird. it's the administrative capital of south africa which means it's full of government stuff and jacaranda trees. yeah apparently those purple trees are everywhere and people seem to like them.
if you get bored, johannesburg is just a short drive away - like 35-50 km south. someone told me that pretoria gets really hot in summer like 30°c and then these random thunderstorms hit at noon. so pack a jacket even if it's hot during the day because evenings get cold apparently.
the voortrekker monument is there which i guess is important if you're into that kind of history stuff. and there's this church street that's apparently 12 miles long. who measures streets in miles anyway? oh and the union buildings with terraced gardens sound kinda nice if you're into that formal garden vibe.
i read somewhere that pretoria is in this valley surrounded by hills which apparently makes it warmer than you'd expect for a place that's 1,350 meters above sea level. the whole place is like a heat trap. and snow? forget about it. apparently it snows once or twice per century if you're lucky.
the population is around 1.8 million people which is a lot but not overwhelming. it's got universities and research places and all that boring stuff. but hey, if you're into museums and old buildings and government stuff, pretoria's your place. just don't forget that jacket.
