Querétaro Vibes: A Sleepy Drummer's Take on the Old Town
so here i am in querétaro, a city that somehow feels like it's always about to take a nap. the weather? i just checked and it's 11°c with a feels-like of 9°c, so yeah, bring a jacket if you're coming. i'm here on tour with my band, and honestly, this place is giving me serious old-world charm mixed with "please don't let me oversleep again" vibes.
"you haven't seen querétaro until you've gotten lost in the aqueduct's shadow,"
someone told me at a taco stand. and they weren't wrong. the aqueduct here is massive, like it's judging you for not being as grand. i spent an afternoon just walking under it, trying to imagine the people who built it. probably didn't have to deal with jet lag, lucky them.
if you get bored, guanajuato and san miguel de allende are just a short drive away. but honestly, querétaro's got enough going on-colonial streets, plazas that feel like they're from a movie, and enough coffee shops to keep a drummer awake before soundcheck.
i heard that the best tamales in town are at a place called "tamales queretanos" near the centro. someone also warned me that the salsa there is "not for the faint of heart." i took that as a challenge and now my mouth is still recovering.
check out tripadvisor for more on the aqueduct, or hit up yelp for tamale reviews. and if you're into history, this local blog has some deep dives on the city's past. just don't blame me if you end up staying longer than planned-this place has a way of making you slow down.
