Regensburg: Where the Danube whispers and the cobblestones remember

i woke up in regensburg to a sky that looked like it had been painted by someone who forgot their coffee. the numbers on my weather app said 8.8°c, but it felt like 7.28°c, which is basically the universe's way of saying 'put on another layer.' humidity at 88%? yeah, my hair agreed. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

walking through the altstadt felt like stepping into a movie set where the crew forgot to take down the medieval props. someone told me that the stone bridge is older than the united states, which is the kind of fact that makes you feel both tiny and weirdly proud. i overheard a local saying the best bratwurst in town is at the würstlkuchl, and if you don't try it, you're basically a tourist-shaped disappointment.

if you get bored, munich and nuremberg are just a short drive away, but honestly, regensburg's got enough charm to keep you busy for days. the cathedral's spires cut through the fog like they were trying to poke holes in the clouds, and the danube...man, the danube just glides by like it's got nowhere to be.

"the best coffee in town? definitely at cafe prinz. but don't go after 3pm-they run out of everything good."

i tried to find a hipster cafe to write this in, but ended up in a bakery instead, eating a pretzel that could've doubled as a pillow. the locals here don't rush. they sip their coffee like it's a ritual, and maybe it is. i heard that the university students keep the city young, but the old stones keep it grounded.

if you're into history, the dokumentationszentrum reichsparteitagsgelände is a short trip away, and for food, check out yelp for the best doner kebab in town. someone also mentioned that the night market in summer is legendary, but i was here in the off-season, so i'll take their word for it.

regensburg doesn't shout. it whispers. and if you listen close enough, you'll hear stories older than your grandparents' grandparents.
