Santa Rosa: Where My Board Rusts and My Soul Drowns

so i'm back from santa rosa, and my board is still soaked. like, soaked to the core. i'm talking about that kind of humidity that seeps into your soul. i just checked and it's 94% humidity outside, which is basically a free facial. hope you like that kind of thing.

some drunk dude in a hammock told me the best skate spot's under that bridge where the water's always brown. but don't go near the piranhas, he said, they'll eat your trucks.

we tried skating anyway. concrete was slick like ice. my bearings already sound like gravel. the whole town smells like wet wood and regret. if you get bored, *pucallpa is just a short drive away. bigger crowds, worse vibes. apparently they've got a skate park now, but someone warned me it's covered in bird poop. heard it on this local forum

i overheard two locals arguing about whether sloths or tourists are slower. one said the sloths at least have an excuse.

saw this little guy yesterday. took us 20 minutes to walk past him. he blinked once. i tried ollie-ing over him but slipped on moss. this place serves questionable fish but the hammocks are decent. 3/5 stars. according to yelp anyway

this one was hanging outside my hostel. kept staring at my gear bag like he knew i was about to fail at kickflips again. they say the mosquito repellent here works but i'm starting to doubt it. my legs look like polka dots.

someone told me that when it rains this hard, the river rises so fast that the floating market* becomes actual floating. everything drifts away. including your dignity if you try to skate on it.

this is the view from the mosquito-infested bar. note how everything's basically floating. book your boat tour here but don't expect wifi. or dryness. or sanity. 2/10 would recommend the chaos. my board's still wet. i'm still sleep-deprived. wouldn't trade it for anything.
