singapore's hidden drum circles and why you should avoid them
i was supposed to be writing this post at a café but instead i spent two hours trying to find a beat that didn’t make my teeth hurt. the drummer next door kept hitting a bucket with a stick and it sounded like a warzone. i couldn’t tell if it was art or someone screaming ‘i gave up’ but either way it was exhausting. i checked the weather and it’s 26.5 here, like a sauna but with more humidity. i almost forgot what ‘cool’ feels like.
if you’re into chaos, this place is your jam. but if you’re not, maybe go somewhere quieter. i heard that someone told me that the seafood here is so bad it could make you sick, but i also heard that a local warned me not to trust the street food because it’s all just reheated mystery. don’t ask me to prove either.
i met a guy at a market who said he’s a professional chef but he was just selling expired ginger. i asked him why and he said ‘it’s a business’ and then tried to sell me a bag of nails. i couldn’t tell if he was joking. i checked the pressure and it’s 1009, which means the air is probably holding its breath. the neighbors are probably doing the same thing. if you get bored, melaka is just a short drive away. but don’t let that fool you-melaka has its own version of this. some people say it’s better. others say it’s worse. i don’t know. i’m just here writing this mess while my phone dies.
i’ll end this by saying the temperature is perfect for this-26.5, no more, no less. unless you count the sweat. that’s a whole other story. i heard that some people think this city is a joke. i don’t. i think it’s a test. or maybe i’m just too tired to care. if you’re reading this, maybe you should go somewhere else. or maybe you’re here for the same reason. i don’t know. i’m not sure. i’m just a drummer with a laptop and a headache. tripadvisor | yelp | localboards">singapore street food | instagram tags: [travel, singapore, human, vibe, messy]
