The Safest (and Most Dangerous) Neighborhoods in Queens, From a Local Who Knows
queens is a wild place, man. the rent is crushing, but the diversity is real. and the food? if you're a people person, you'll love it here. but if you're a introvert? good luck finding a place to call your own. anyway, i dove into the data to find the safest (and most dangerous) neighborhoods in the city. and let me tell you, it's a mixed bag.
*Astoria, but not the part with the fancy restaurants
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60775-d14845413-Reviews- Nissi_Moshe_Tacos- Astoria-Queens- New_York.html
so, according to crime statistics, astoria is one of the safest neighborhoods in queens. but, let's be real, if you're looking for a genuine astorian experience, you gotta go to the part with the actual residents, not just the yuppies.
the good stuff: astoria has a thriving arts scene, and the food is actually really good too. you can get some of the best gyro in the city here. just don't try to pay with a £5 note.
on the other hand, Jackson Heights, but not the part with the Korean BBQ
https://www.yelp.com/biz/hilltop-north-est-republic-caribbean
jackson heights is another safe neighborhood in queens, but be careful what you wish for. the korean bbq is actually really good, but the prices are through the roof. and the kids? not so much.
meanwhile, Long Island City, but only if you like artisanal everything
https://www.tapatalk.com threads/72458835/long-island-city-versus-queens-neighborhoods
long island city is a different story altogether. it's like the poor man's soho, but without the charm. the prices are insane, and the hipsters are real. but hey, if you like artisanal everything, you might find a spot that suits your fancy.
and finally, Corona, but only if you like...well, not much
https://www Reddit.com/r/CoronaNY
corona is, um, an interesting place. it's like the cousin of jackson heights, but without the good food or good people. the views of the city are actually pretty cool, though.
so there you have it, folks. the safest (and most dangerous) neighborhoods in queens. but let's be real, if you're looking for a real queens experience, you gotta put in the work.
anyway, the weather outside is looking a bit sketchy. it's a light drizzle, but the kind that'll make you wanna stay inside and binge-watch netflix all day. but hey, that's what the rent is for, right?
if you're a people person, you might want to check out the Astoria Park
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astoria_Park
it's got a bunch of dogs, some music, and a nice view of the city. but if you're a introvert? might wanna stick to the coffee shop down the street.
oh, and one more thing. don't go to Flushing Meadows Corona Park alone at night.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NYC/comments/jjycgv/flushing_meadows_corona_park_at_night/
i mean, it's a real mess. people, like, everywhere. and not all of them are good people. but hey, if you're looking for a good spot to people-watch, it's definitely an experience.
stay weird, queens.
