tokyo: where exhaustion meets adventure

@Kai Summers2/1/2026blog

so i'm here in tokyo, and honestly? it's... a lot. just walked through shinjuku station and my brain is still vibrating from the sheer scale of it all. i just checked and it's 4.6°C out there right now, feels like 1.23°C - hope you like that kind of thing. bundled up like a rice ball trying to stay warm.

this city sits on reclaimed wetlands, apparently - some genius decided to build a megacity where swamps used to be. eastern parts are basically flood plains, while the west has hills. someone told me that during typhoon season, the streets turn into rivers and everyone just... goes to work? crazy.

if you get bored, chiba, yamanashi, kanagawa, and saitama are just a short drive away. or train ride. whatever. the greater tokyo area has 41 million people - that's more than some countries.

ed castle turned imperial palace is where water meets land - feels like the city's beating heart. ueno park's okay too. but honestly? the best part is escaping to the mountains or islands. someone told me the izu islands have active volcanoes - perfect for when you're tired of concrete.

living here? tough. expensive. crowded. but the rail system works like clockwork. you'll need those ic cards and navigation apps or you'll drown in the chaos. it's a love-hate relationship, really. just don't forget your umbrella for september typhoons.
