wandering through the weird and wonderful streets of long beach

okay, so the sun’s out, but it’s that kind of sun that tricks you into thinking you’re warm until you step into the shade and realize you’re actually freezing. i just checked and it’s 14.89°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. i’m sitting here with my coffee, trying to remember what the hell happened yesterday because, honestly, it’s all a blur of mismatched socks and bad decisions.

“you gotta try the crab cakes at the dockside joint-they’re the only thing keeping me sane,” said the guy at the bar who looked like he’d been there since the 90s.

if you get bored, biloxi and gulfport are just a short drive away. but honestly, why would you leave when you’ve got *long beach with its weird little antique shops and the smell of salt in the air? someone told me that the pier at sunset is the best place to cry without anyone noticing, and i’m not sure if that’s poetic or just sad.

i heard that the local diner serves pancakes the size of your face, but i haven’t dared to test that theory yet. maybe tomorrow. or maybe i’ll just sit here and watch the seagulls fight over a french fry like it’s the last one on earth.

and then there’s the beach. it’s not the kind of beach you see in magazines, all pristine and perfect. no, this one’s got character. shells, seaweed, and the occasional piece of driftwood that looks like it’s been through a war. someone said the sunsets here are the kind that make you question everything, and i’m starting to believe them.

i don’t know, man. maybe it’s the coffee talking, but there’s something about this place that feels like home, even if it’s not. maybe it’s the way the wind smells like the ocean or the way the locals nod at you like they’ve known you forever. or maybe it’s just the fact that i’m too tired to think straight.

anyway, if you’re ever in the area, check out TripAdvisor for more tips. or don’t. i’m not your mom.

long beach* is weird, wonderful, and weirdly wonderful. and that’s exactly why i love it.
