Davao City: Just a Big Freaking Typhoon-Proof City with Durian and Eagles, I Guess?
i just checked and it's 24°c out here, which feels like 25.09°c, and honestly, it's kinda perfect if you're into that whole no-sweat, no-frills life. not sure if the weather's lying or not-temperature barely moves up or down-but hey, if you're me and you forget to be sweaty, you're probably doing it right.
i mean, look, darwin won't care but whatever happened to this place?Davao. literally explosion-proof. throws typhoon-proof in the mix? there's already a giant rock nearby that looks mad pissed. climb up for views or just scream into the air. maybe both.
if you get bored, there's panabo or samal island right there, 30 minutes max. drive. someone told me that durian here is the only one that doesn't make you barf. take that as you will. or don't. who knows. point is, durian = life. durian sweets = more life. banana anything = infinite. we're talking orchards big enough to make you dizzy staring at 'em. wings covered in eagles you won't see in othershittier places.
Davao's the kinda place where mountains scream at each other. mount apo sits like a smoldering eye in the background-visible from anywhere. don't worry, though. it's active but not vibe-killing. unless you're into that. but let's keep this civil.
the people? dabawenyos. 2.1 million of them. tribes all tangled up in a blender. and somehow they're still making it work. can't believe it. how do they even run this place? it's like a million rednecks but also scientists and poets. how.
stay away from the sasa port unless you like watching guys magically juggle 30 suitcases. and honestly? the eagle sanctuaries are worth pretending you're a bird expert for an hour. just don't ask me how they find those guys. they be everywhere.
don't get it? it's the durian. and the mosquitoes. and the fact we're not in a typhoon right now. which is kinda weird. but also? perfect.
and yes, i walked. yes, ii got lost. and no, i did not see a single banana that wasn't ready to explode. too bad.
so if you like your cities with a side of chaos but also mountains and eagles and zero typhoons, this is your paragnosis. just don't ask how they fit it all. i don't know.
