Demographics of Mymensingh: Who Lives Here in 2026?
i was driving throughyecticas the other day and realized mymensingh isn’t the sleepy town it used to be. sure, it’s still full of people who grow okra in their backyards or chase pigeons at sunrise, but the vibe? it’s more ‘trying not to get scammed’ now. lived here for six months and here’s what i’ve noticed. rent’s cheaper than dhaka, obviously, but don’t let the $200/month listings fool you-most of that is in some dad’s garage with a faulty ac unit. safety? hit or miss. heard the markets are sketchier at night, but then again, i’ve seen a guy sell mangoes at midnight and still smile. locals say the job market’s shaky, mostly construction or that tea factory boom no one actually wants. couldn’t tell you the exact numbers, but it feels like everyone’s side-hustling or waiting for something to change.
leaks out in bits. heard a rumor that the uni’s new dorm is attracting international students, which would explain why the cafes are suddenly crowded with people who talk like they’re from london. but no one has proof. another thing? the weather. not just heat, but that sticky, humid stuff that clings to your skin like an ex. some dude i passed said it’s because of the factories, but i think it’s just mombs of dust and regret. anyway, if you’re here, you’re either a student, a freelancer, or someone who’s lost hope and just bought a motorcycle. which is fine. motorcycles are cheap here.
(obviously, none of this is based on a study. i’m just throwing popcorn at the wall and seeing what sticks. over here, someone whispered to me about a new tech hub in the old train station area. said it’s all ghost stories and vending machines now. i laughed. or maybe i cried. i forget.)
