Gwangju: A Chaotic Journey Through South Korea's Sixth-Largest Metropolis
okay, so gwangju. right. it's this huge city in southwestern south korea, and i just checked and it's -0.58°C there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. i mean, it's freaking cold, but whatever. the city is huge, spanning 34.3 km east-west and 23.1 km north-south, which is like, a lot. it's basically right on the foot of mount mudeung, which towers at 1,187 meters. crazy, huh?
so, gwangju. it's got this crazy mix of mountains in the east and plains in the west, which i guess makes it great for farming or something. i don't know, i'm just a blogger. someone told me that the alluvial plains are super fertile, which i guess explains why there's so much food around. the city is like this admin and culture hub, yada yada. it's got five districts, which i found out because, you know, i had to look it up.
transportation-wise, it's a big deal. it's like this major junction for southwestern korea, connecting seoul and busan by air, rail, and road. they've got a subway and two airports. who needs that much flight, right? but hey, if you're into that, it's there.
if you get bored, seoul and busan are just a short drive away. i mean, relatively short. it's still korea, so everything's a bit of a trek, but whatever. gwangju's got its own things going on too. there's a kimchi festival every october, which is basically a big deal if you like that sort of thing. and there's this stadium, guus hiddink stadium, which hosted world cup matches. i heard the food's pretty good too, especially the kimchi.
i don't know, it's just a city. it's got its pros and cons, like any place. but if you're into history, food, or just wandering around, gwangju's not too bad. just wrap up warm, okay?
that's all for now, folks. catch you next time, maybe in a warmer place.
