Morelia: So Much to Grind With

hey everyone, it's me. just…here. morelia. it’s…well, it's stuff. i'm a freelance photographer, which basically means my whole life is chasing a decent light and a good composition. and honestly? the light here is interesting. it’s that perpetually cool, slightly hazy light that makes everything look a bit dreamlike. yeah, i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

i actually booked a solo trip here a little impulsively. i heard it’s got a rich history and beautiful architecture, and honestly, my brain needed a reset. it’s been a whirlwind of wandering, getting lost (again), and trying not to eat so much street food. the food…oh man, the food! i heard that someone told me the local mole is amazing, but so far, i’ve mostly been surviving on tacos and questionable coffee - the kind you find in places that advertise ‘specialty coffee’ but just serve burnt beans.

the city itself is…compact. walkable, if you're willing to get a little muddy. the elevation is insane, though. seriously, 6,400 feet? it's a constant battle against feeling like i’m about to be launched into space. i keep catching my breath. i heard that the cool mountain air is a nice change of pace.

morelia is a good jumping-off point if you want to check out some of the other places around. if you get bored, guanajuato is just a short drive away. i’m still trying to decide if i want to do the whole lake thing - Pátzcuaro and Cuitzeo - but those are definitely on the list. i'm reading some reviews on TripAdvisor about the local boat tours - that might be a good way to see the lakes without feeling like i’m about to fall off the side.

so yeah. it’s morelia. a little chaotic, a little dusty, and a whole lot interesting. i’m not sure when i’ll be leaving, but for now, i’m just trying to soak it all in. anyone got any recommendations for less touristy spots? or maybe some killer coffee suggestions? hit me with it.
