Quang Binh Vibes: Caves, Coffee, and Crazy Humidity
okay so i landed in quang binh and immediately felt like i’d stepped into a sauna. the humidity is no joke-someone told me it’s usually around 76% here, which explains why my hair looked like a science experiment gone wrong. but honestly? i kinda loved it. there’s something about that sticky, warm air that makes you feel alive, even if you’re sweating through your shirt by 9am.
i just checked and it’s 23°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. it’s the kind of weather that makes you want to slow down, sip iced coffee, and pretend you’re in a vietnamese movie montage.
first stop: phong nha-ke bang national park. i heard rumors that the caves here are mind-blowing, and let me tell you, the gossip was right. i booked a tour through phong nha cave tours and ended up crawling through tunnels that felt like they were designed by a mad genius. the guide kept saying things like “this is where the bats sleep” and “don’t touch that, it’s alive,” which was both terrifying and hilarious.
if you get bored, hue and danang are just a short drive away, but honestly? i didn’t want to leave quang binh. the town itself is tiny but packed with charm. i spent an afternoon wandering the streets, stopping at cafe 69 for a coconut coffee that was so good i almost cried. the owner, a sweet old lady, told me her secret was “love and a little bit of magic.” i’m not sure if she was joking, but i’m choosing to believe her.
one thing i didn’t expect? the food. i heard from a drunk backpacker at a hostel that the banh khoai here is the best in vietnam, and again, the rumors were true. crispy, savory, and served with a side of chili sauce that’ll make your eyes water in the best way possible.
i also stumbled upon a local market where i bought a handmade scarf for like $2. the vendor laughed when i tried to haggle, saying “you’re already getting the local price, tourist!” which was fair. i wore it for the rest of the trip, even though it was way too hot.
quang binh isn’t the kind of place you see on every travel blog, and that’s exactly why i loved it. it’s raw, unpolished, and full of surprises. if you’re into caves, coffee, and chaos, this is your spot. just bring deodorant. trust me on that one.

until next time, stay sweaty and curious.
