Barmhān Kalān: Honestly, I Barely Know It Either

okay, so i’m staring at this file, a bunch of numbers and…well, not a lot else. apparently, i’m supposed to write about Barmhān Kalān. which, let’s be real, i’d never heard of before five minutes ago. it’s in central india, which is…big. like, really big. the coordinates are roughly 19.1972, 72.9722. i tried to find a good picture, and it’s mostly just fields. a lot of fields.

it’s described as having “rolling plains.” which sounds…pleasant enough, i guess? if you’re into plains. i’m more of a mountains person, but hey, to each their own. apparently, it’s all about agriculture there. fertile land, the whole deal. it’s part of this bigger area, central india, that stretches from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. that’s…a lot of india. i’m starting to feel a little overwhelmed just thinking about it.

there’s absolutely nothing to do there, as far as i can tell. no landmarks, no tourist attractions, no famous dishes. someone told me that the roads aren’t great, and you really need a local driver if you want to get anywhere. which, honestly, sounds about right for a tiny little locality in central india. i just checked and it's 33.96°C (that's about 92°F) there right now, feels like 33.06°C, with humidity at 29%. hope you like that kind of thing. it’s subtropical, so expect monsoon season to be…intense.

apparently, it shares a historical context with the rest of the indian subcontinent, being bounded by the Himalayas and other ranges. but there are no specific historical records for Barmhān Kalān itself. it’s just…there. existing. which, you know, is valid. not everything needs a dramatic backstory.

if you get bored, areas influenced by the Bundelkhand region (Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh) are just a short drive away. i’m assuming “short” is relative. everything is relative, isn’t it? i haven’t found any information about neighboring cities specifically, just that it’s “potentially near” those areas. very helpful.

no notable people come from there either. the population just…farms. it’s a very agricultural vibe. culturally, it’s “aligned with central india’s rural communities,” which is a very vague statement. i’m picturing lots of brightly colored saris and friendly people, but that’s just a stereotype, isn’t it? i should probably stop making assumptions.

the “distinctive feature” is the fertile rolling plains. which, again, is nice if you like plains. the whole thing just feels…underdocumented. it’s a low-profile locality with minimal online presence. the note at the end of the data says that for “deeper insights, local or regional sources may be needed.” which basically means: “good luck finding anything useful online.”

honestly, i’m exhausted just writing about a place i’ve never been and know so little about. it’s a reminder that there are so many places in the world that aren’t plastered all over instagram. and that’s okay. maybe it’s nice that some places just…are. quietly. without needing to be “discovered.” but also, someone really needs to update the wikipedia page. or, you know, make a wikipedia page. it’s 2024, people!
